Legislative Assembly elections were recently held in India. Out of these, except Telangana, BJP got a majority in all the other three states. But the people of Maharashtra are still not ready to forget ‘Macau’.

Even today the ‘Macau’ case is raging in Maharashtra. When Maharashtra was on fire due to the issue of reservation, BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule was gambling in a casino, because of this case, Bawankule’s image has been tarnished. Therefore, to improve his image, he has given cash to journalists.

Bawankule was gambling in ‘Macau’. At that time, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, MP Sanjay Raut has recently alleged that he squandered three and a half crore rupees in the casino in just three hours. Not only this, but they have also made the related photos viral.

Macau is under Chinese rule. On the one hand, the BJP preaches to boycott Chinese goods, and how can the state president of the same party go to China and have fun? People are angrily asking the question through social media that how money is wasted on gambling there.

Farmers in the state are in trouble, youth are suffering from unemployment, and inflation has made it difficult for people to live, even in such a critical situation, the ‘roots’ of BJP clans have reached the casino palace of Macau. Bawankule was disturbed due to Sanjay Raut’s alligation. Not only Bawankule but Bharatiya Janata Party in Maharashtra has gone on the back foot. Bawankule should have resigned due to this matter. But it is futile to expect such things from the current BJP people.

Overall, Bawankule is scared because of the angry reaction from the public. Therefore, he decided to hold hands with journalists to build his image. Even before this, he was the victim of journalists’ anger due to his controversial statement, ‘To avoid publishing news against them, give tea to journalists, take them to dinner at dhabas’.

Trying to give ‘bribe’ on the pretext of Diwali

Bawankule organized a dinner program to appease the journalists. For that, the program was cutely named ‘Diwali Bhet’ (Diwali gift). Fifteen days had passed since the actual Diwali. Bawankule’s real aim was to appease the journalists, to divert the attention of the journalists from the ‘Macau’ issue. He made a successful attempt to bribe for it, and after Diwali again celebrated ‘second’ Diwali.

After the event, selected journalists covering the Ministry and the Legislature were personally called by Bawankule’s media department. Some of them were given laptops and others were given iPads. Some journalists were given Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 cash in their wallets. Not only this, some selected editors were also paid Rs 50,000 in cash at their homes.

Bawankule’s media handlers ‘Changunath’ and ‘Mangunath’ helped a lot in this matter. (The duo is notorious in the BJP’s Mumbai office due to their nicknames ‘Changunath’ and ‘Mangunath’.)

The mass media curriculum should also be updated. Henceforth the information about how to handle the media of the ministers, and leaders, when and how the money should be given to scribes, paid news, advertorial, etc should be given in the so-called mass media course.

A similar program was organised in Pune where Bawankule in a damage control exercise gave money in cash to scribes. He blew one whistle and journalists from print and electronic media, including editors, group editors and senior Journalists gathered to collect the item.

They also enjoyed the food. Did a photo session with Bawankule. Like Bawankule, he also shared it on his social media. After that Bavankule and his media team met everyone in person and gave gifts and cash in the same way, the ‘Sprouts’ team had reliable information.

People are also asking the question that journalists who are seen as the pillars of democracy and on the other hand take photos or selfies with such corrupt leaders and feel blessed to receive gifts from them, will they have the courage to write against these rulers?

‘Sprouts’ will get justice!

Last year, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis invited over 180 select journalists (‘Lashkar-e-Devendra’) to his government bungalow ‘Sagar’. Many journalists were covering the political bits, some were editors. Sprouts published the news showing the fact that they were given a full meal there and after that Reliance Company’s gift vouchers of Rs 50,000 had given to all of them.

‘The Indian Express’ approached the Bombay High Court against this news (published by Sprouts). A lawsuit was filed against the editor of Sprouts’ Unmesh Gujarathi for Rs 100 crore. Even today, the editor of ‘Sprouts’ and their special investigation team stand by the opinions they wrote. Currently, this matter is sub judice, so detailed information will be given after the decision of the court. It is certain that ‘Sprouts’ will get justice in the court.

Even the Maharashtra administration was shocked by the news of ‘Sprouts’. Most of the leaders avoided giving gifts or money openly to the journalists at the event. Instead, their PROs personally meet journalists and give gifts. This new step has now been laid.

After the incident last year, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde distributed gold coins to journalists covering the ministry for a week and digital watches to journalists in Thane. The editors received the most expensive mobile phone of the Apple company (14 max iPhone). All these gifts were sent to them personally. Of course, there was corruption in that too. Many journalists received none of this.

This year too, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde invited journalists from Mumbai and Thane to the ‘Varsha’ bungalow and gave them only packets of dry fruits. But after a week, ‘packets’ were sent personally to selected journalists (journalists who cover political bit). There are gift vouchers of the ‘Lifestyle’ company worth Rs. 50,000. A special gift has also been sent to the editors.

Industry Minister Uday Samant also called some reporters covering the ministry this Diwali at Hotel Trident in Mumbai and gave them ‘envelopes’ containing cash of Rs. 15,000. Minister of Medical Education Hasan Mushrif similarly handed out envelopes containing Rs 25,000 cash to select journalists covering the Mantralay bit. 

School Education Minister Deepak Vasant Kesarkar also distributed 20 grams of silver coin to the journalists (Mantralay and legislative bit), Kesarkar Guruji laid a new step in the field of ‘education’. Shiv Sena leader (Shinde group) Yashwant Jadhav also gave a gold-plated Ganapati idol to selected journalists who cover BMC bit. (These are all journalists’ ‘figures’, editors’ ‘figures’ are many times higher).

Complaints should be lodged to the Lokayukta
Many leaders distribute ‘packets’ (money) on the occasion of Diwali, especially journalists covering Mantralay and BMC bit. This is the type of ‘bribe’ given on the occasion of ‘Diwali’. A complaint should be made to the Lokayukta against this and the voice of fearless journalism should be raised.

The editor known for withdrawing editorials is absconding

The editor, who has been attending every Diwali event and claiming gift vouchers rightfully, did not even attend the event called by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He may have already suspected that gift vouchers will not be available this time.

A trend of repeatedly withdrawing editorials has been set by a Marathi daily claiming itself as ” Lokmanya”. The owners do not have the decency even to inform the helpless editor ( who doesn’t deserve to be named) while withdrawing editorials. An apology is tendered, and an article is withdrawn from the website. What could be more shameless than this? Ironically the same newspaper group gives ” Excellence in Journalism ‘ awards to scribes every year. The ads worth crores are collected from the companies flouting rules in impunity. 

The helpless editor is scared of Sprouts

The same editor of the Marathi newspaper who is infamous for withdrawing editorials, also involved in translating articles from foreign newspapers and engaged in clandestine racketeering was not present in any of the Diwali functions. Nowadays he is scared of accepting even a ” packet” sent through courier or post. Only the time is the real Judge.

म’खाऊ’, बावनकुळे आणि पत्रकारांची ‘दुसरी’ दिवाळी

भारतात नुकत्याच विधानसभेच्या निवडणुका पार पडल्या. यापैकी तेलंगणा वगळता बाकी तीनही राज्यांत भाजपाला बहुमत मिळाले. मात्र महाराष्ट्र्रातील जनता अजूनही ‘मकाऊ’ला विसरायला तयार नाही. 

आजही ‘मकाऊ’ प्रकरण महाराष्ट्रात धुमसत आहे. आरक्षणाच्या मुद्यावरून महाराष्ट्र पेटलेला असताना भाजपचे प्रदेशाध्यक्ष चंद्रशेखर बावनकुळे कॅसिनोत जुगार खेळत होते, या प्रकरणामुळे बावनकुळे यांची प्रतिमा मलीन झालेली आहे, त्यामुळे स्वत:ची प्रतिमा सुधारण्यासाठी, त्यांनी चक्क पत्रकारांनाच रोख रक्कम दिल्याची धक्कादायक माहिती ‘स्प्राऊट्स’च्या टीमकडे आलेली आहे.  

‘मकाऊ’मध्ये बावनकुळे जुगार खेळत होते. त्यावेळी त्यांनी अवघ्या तीन तासात कॅसिनोत साडेतीन कोटी रुपये उधळले, असा आरोप शिवसेना (उबाठा ) नेते, खासदार संजय राऊत यांनी नुकताच केला आहे. इतकेच नव्हे तर त्यांनी त्यासंबंधीचे फोटोही व्हायरल केले आहेत.

मकाऊ चीनच्या आधिपत्याखाली आहे. भाजपवाले एकीकडे चिनी मालावर बहिष्कार घाला, असा उपदेश करतात आणि त्याच पक्षाचे प्रदेशाध्यक्ष चीनमध्ये जाऊन मौजमस्ती कशी करतात? तिथे जुगारावर पैसे कसे उडवतात, असा सवाल सोशल मीडियाच्या माध्यमातून जनता संतप्तपणे विचारत आहे. 

महाराष्ट्रातील शेतकरी संकटात आहे, तरुण बेरोजगारीने त्रस्त आहे, महागाईने जनतेला जगणे कठीण झाले आहे, अशा गंभीर प्रसंगातही भाजपच्या कुळे यांची ‘मुळे’ मकाऊच्या कॅसिनो महालात पोहचली. राऊत यांनी केलेल्या या पोलखोलमुळे बावनकुळे चांगलेच बिथरले आहेत. केवळ बावनकुळेच नव्हे तर महाराष्ट्रातील भारतीय जनता पक्षच बॅकफूटवर गेला आहे. खरेतर याप्रकरणामुळे बावनकुळे यांनी राजीनामाच द्यायला हवा होता. पण सध्याच्या भाजपवाल्यांकडून अशा प्रकारची अपेक्षा करणेच व्यर्थ आहे. 

एकंदरीतच जनतेमधून येणाऱ्या संतप्त प्रतिक्रियेमुळे बावनकुळे चांगलेच धास्तावलेले आहेत. त्यामुळे स्वतःची इमेज बिल्डींग करण्यासाठी त्यांनी पत्रकारांना हाताशी धरण्याचा निर्णय घेतला. याआधीही ‘विरोधात बातम्या न लावण्यासाठी पत्रकारांना चहा पाजा, धाब्यावर जेवायला न्या’ या वादग्रस्त विधानामुळे ते पत्रकारांच्या रोषाचे बळी ठरलेले होते. 

दिवाळीचे निमित्त करून ‘लाच‘ देण्याचा प्रयत्न 

बावनकुळे यांनी पत्रकारांना खुश करण्यासाठी भोजनाचा कार्यक्रम आयोजित केला होता. त्यासाठी ‘दिवाळी भेट’ असे कार्यक्रमाचे गोंडस नामकरण केले होते. वास्तविक दिवाळी होऊन पंधरा दिवस उलटले होते. बावनकुळेंचा खरा उद्देश हा पत्रकारांना खूष करण्याचा होता, पत्रकारांचे लक्ष ‘मकाऊ’ प्रकरणावरून दुसरीकडे वळवण्याचा होता. त्यासाठी लाच द्यायचा हा यशस्वी प्रयत्न त्यांनी केला व दिवाळीनंतर पुन्हा ‘दुसरी’ दिवाळी साजरी केली. 

या कार्यक्रमानंतर ‘मंत्रालय व विधिमंडळ’ कव्हर करणाऱ्या काही निवडक पत्रकारांना त्यांच्या मीडिया विभागातील पत्रकारांनी व्यक्तिशः बोलावले. त्यापैकी काहींना लॅपटॉप तर काहींना आयपॅड दिले. तर काही पत्रकारांना चक्क १५ ते २० हजार रुपयांची रोख रक्कम पाकिटात घालून दिली. इतकेच नव्हे तर काही निवडक संपादकांना त्यांच्या घरी जाऊन ५० हजार रुपयांची रोख रक्कमही दिली.

याप्रकरणात बावनकुळे यांचे मीडिया सांभाळणारे ‘चंगूनाथ’ व ‘मंगूनाथ’ यांनी मोलाची मदत केली. (‘चंगूनाथ’ व ‘मंगूनाथ’ या टोपणनावामुळे ही जोडगोळी भाजपच्या मुंबई कार्यालयात कुप्रसिद्ध आहे.) 

मास मीडियाचा अभ्यासक्रमही आता अपडेट व्हायला हवा. आता यापुढे ‘मास मीडिया’च्या टुकार कोर्समध्येही मंत्री, पुढारी यांचा ‘मीडिया’ कसा सांभाळावा, इतकेच नव्हे तर पत्रकारांना कधी व किती पैसे द्यावेत याचीही माहिती द्यायला हवी. 

बावनकुळे यांनी मुंबईसारखाच कार्यक्रम पुण्यातही आयोजित केलेला होता. बावनकुळे यांनी एक शिळ घातल्यावर पुण्यातही अशाच प्रकारे महत्त्वाच्या वृत्तपत्र व चॅनेलमधील समूह संपादक, संपादक व निवडक पत्रकार गोळा झाले होते. त्यांनीही भोजनाचा आस्वाद घेतला. बावनकुळेंबरोबर फोटोसेशन केले. बावनकुळे यांनीही त्यांना पंतप्रधान नरेंद्र मोदी यांच्यावरील पुस्तक दिले, त्याचेही फोटो काढण्यात आले. बावनकुळेंसारखेच या संपादक व पत्रकार यांनी ते आनंदाने शेअर केले. मात्र हा सारा दिखावा होता. त्यानंतर बावनकुळे व त्यांच्या मीडियातील टीमने अशाच प्रकारे प्रत्येकाला व्यक्तिशः भेटून भेटवस्तू व रोख रक्कम दिली, अशी खात्रीलायक माहिती ‘स्प्राऊट्स’च्या टीमकडे आलेली आहे.

जे पत्रकार लोकशाहीचा स्तंभ म्हणून मिरवतात व दुसरीकडे अशा भ्रष्ट नेत्यांबरोबर फोटो किंवा सेल्फी काढतात, त्यांच्याकडून गिफ्ट घेण्यातच धन्यता मानतात, ते या सत्ताधाऱ्यांविरोधात लिखाण करण्याची हिंमत दाखवतील काय, लाचारीचा कळस तो अजून काय असतो, असा प्रश्नही जनता सोशल मीडियाच्या माध्यमातून विचारत आहे. 

‘स्प्राऊट्स‘ला न्याय मिळणारच!

मागील वर्षी महाराष्ट्राचे उपमुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस यांनी त्यांच्या ‘सागर’ या सरकारी बंगल्यावर १८० हून अधिक निवडक पत्रकारांना (‘लष्कर- ए – देवेंद्र’) ‘दिवाळी भेट’ देण्याच्या निमित्ताने बोलावले होते. यातील बरेचशे पत्रकार हे विधिमंडळ व मंत्रालय बिट कव्हर करणारे होते, काही संपादकही होते. तेथे त्यांना पोटभर जेवण दिले व त्यानंतर या सर्वांना तेथे रिलायन्स कंपनीचे ५० हजार रुपयांचे गिफ्ट व्हाउचर वाटण्यात आले, अशी वस्तुस्थिती दर्शविणारी बातमी ‘स्प्राऊट्स’ने प्रसिद्ध केली. 

या बातमीच्या विरोधात ‘द इंडियन एक्स्प्रेस’ या वृत्तसमूहाने मुंबई उच्च न्यायालयात धाव घेतली. ‘स्प्राऊट्स’चे संपादक उन्मेष गुजराथी यांच्यावर १०० कोटी रुपयांचा दावा दाखल केला. आजही ‘स्प्राऊट्स’चे संपादक व त्यांची स्पेशल इन्व्हेस्टीगेशन टीम ही त्यांनी लिहिलेल्या मतांवर ठाम आहेत. सध्या हे प्रकरण न्यायप्रविष्ट आहे, त्यामुळे न्यायालयाच्या निर्णयानंतर सविस्तर माहिती देण्यात येईल. न्यायालयात ‘स्प्राऊट्स’ला न्याय मिळेल, अशी खात्री आहे. 

‘स्प्राऊट्स’च्या ‘त्या’ बातमीमुळे महाराष्ट्रातील प्रशासनानेचेही धाबे दणाणलेले होते. बऱ्याचशा पुढारी, नेते मंडळींनी पत्रकारांना कार्यक्रमात, खुलेआम गिफ्ट किंवा पैसे देण्याचे टाळले. त्याऐवजी त्यांचे पीआरओ स्वतः पत्रकारांना व्यक्तीश: भेटून गिफ्ट देतात. हा नवा पायंडा आता पडलेला आहे. 

मुख्यमंत्री एकनाथ शिंदे यांनी मागील वर्षी या घटनेनंतर आठवड्याभराने मंत्रालय कव्हर करणाऱ्या पत्रकारांना सोन्याचे गोल्ड कॉईन तर ठाण्यातील पत्रकारांना डिजिटल घड्याळे वाटली. संपादकांना ‘१४ प्रो मॅक्स’ (14 max iPhone) हा ऍपल कंपनीचा जवळपास दीड लाखाचा मोबाईल वाटले. या सर्व भेटवस्तू त्यांना व्यक्तिशः बोलावून देण्यात आल्या. अर्थात त्यातही भ्रष्टाचार झाला. कित्येक पत्रकारांना यापैकी काहीच मिळाले नाही. 

यंदाही मुख्यमंत्री एकनाथ शिंदे यांनी मुंबई व ठाणे येथील पत्रकारांना ‘वर्षा’ बंगल्यावर बोलावले, कोणाच्याही नजरेत येऊ नये म्हणून त्यांना प्रत्येकाला केवळ ड्रायफ्रूट्सचे पाकीट दिले. मात्र आठवड्याभरानंतर ‘मंत्रालय’ कव्हर करणाऱ्या निवडक पत्रकारांना व्यक्तिशः पाकिटे पाठवली. त्यात ५० हजार रुपयांची ‘लाइफस्टाइल’ (Lifestyle) कंपनीची गिफ्ट व्हाउचर्स आहेत. संपादकांना मात्र विशेष गिफ्ट पाठवलेली आहेत.  

उद्योगमंत्री उदय सामंत ( दिवंगत पत्रकार शशिकांत वारिसे आम्हाला क्षमा करा… ) यांनीही यंदाच्या दिवाळीत मंत्रालय कव्हर करणाऱ्या व काही संपादकांना मुंबईतील हॉटेल ट्रायडंट येथे बोलावले व त्यांना १५ हजार रुपयांची रोख रक्कम असलेली पाकिटे दिली. वैद्यकीय शिक्षण मंत्री हसन मुश्रीफ यांनीही अशाच प्रकारे मंत्रालय व विधिमंडळ’ कव्हर करणाऱ्या काही निवडक पत्रकारांना २५ हजार रुपयांची रोख रक्कम असलेली पाकिटे दिली. 

शालेय शिक्षणमंत्री दीपक केसरकर यांनीही २० ग्राम चांदीचे नाणे पत्रकारांना वाटले, ‘शिक्षण’क्षेत्रात नवा पायंडा केसरकर गुरुजींनी घालून दिला. शिवसेना नेते (शिंदे गट ) यशवंत जाधव यांनी तर पालिकेतील निवडक पत्रकारांना गोल्ड प्लेटेड गणपतीही दिला. (हे सर्व पत्रकारांचे ‘आकडे’ आहेत, संपादकांचे ‘आकडे’ याहून कितीतरी पटीने अधिक आहेत). 

लोकायुक्तांकडे तक्रारी करणे आवश्यक 

असंख्य नेते व पुढारी दिवाळीनिमित्त पाकिटे वाटतात, विशेषतः मंत्रालय व पालिका कव्हर करणाऱ्या पत्रकारांना दिवाळीनिमित्ताने पाकिटे वाटण्याचे प्रकार अधिक आहेत. ‘दिवाळी’च्या निमित्ताने लाच देण्याचाच हा प्रकार असतो. खरेतर याविरोधात लोकायुक्तांकडे तक्रार करायला हवी व निर्भीड पत्रकारितेचा आवाज बुलुंद करायला हवा.  

‘अग्रलेख मागे घेणारे‘ संपादक गायब 

एरवी प्रत्येक दिवाळीच्या कार्यक्रमात आवर्जून हजेरी लावणारे, गिफ्ट व्हाउचर हक्काने मागून घेणारे संपादक यावेळी मात्र उपमुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस यांनी बोलावलेल्या कार्यक्रमात फिरकलेदेखील नाहीत. कदाचित यावेळी गिफ्ट व्हाउचर मिळणार नाहीत, याची त्यांना अगोदरच कुणकुण लागली असावी. 

महाराष्ट्र्रात अग्रलेख वारंवार मागे घेण्याचा नवीनच पायंडा स्वतःला ‘लोकमान्य’ म्हणून मिरवणाऱ्या वृत्तपत्राने पाडलेला आहे. हे अग्रलेख मागे घेताना, त्यांच्यावतीने माफी मागताना ‘त्या’ लाचार संपादकाला (नाव घेण्याचाही लायकीचे नाहीत ) कळविण्याचे सौजन्यही मालक दाखवत नाहीत. थेट माफीनामा वृत्तपत्रात प्रसिद्ध केला जातो, वेबसाइटवरून अग्रलेख काढण्यात येतो, यापेक्षा शरमेची बाब ती काय? 

दुर्दैव म्हणजे हेच वृत्तपत्र दरवर्षी पत्रकारितेत उत्कृष्ठ कामगिरी करणाऱ्या पत्रकारांना ‘Excellence in Journalisam’ च्या नावाखाली पुरस्कार खिरापतीसारखे वाटतात, त्यासाठी नियमबाह्य काम करणाऱ्या, सरकारी महसूल बुडवणाऱ्या कंपन्यांच्या जाहिराती घेतात व त्यातूनही कोट्यवधी रुपयांचे उत्पन्न मिळवतात. 

लाचार संपादकाने घेतला ‘स्प्राऊट्स‘चा धसका 

पाश्यात्य वृत्तपत्रांतील उत्कृष्ट लेखांचे जसेच्या तसे तितक्याच उत्कृष्टपणे मराठीत अनुवाद करणे व ते स्वतःच्या नावाने प्रसिद्ध करणारे, लपूनछपून होलसेलमध्ये दुकानदारी करणारे, ‘उचल्या’कार संपादक मात्र यंदा कुठल्याही ‘दिवाळी भेट’ कार्यक्रमात उपस्थित नव्हते. ‘स्प्राऊट्स’च्या बातमीचा त्यांनी फारच धसका घेतलेला आहे. साधे पोस्टाने किंवा कुरिअरने आलेले ‘पाकिट’ही हातात घ्यायला, ते सध्या घाबरतात. असो कालाय तस्मै नमः !
